⭐️ Black Lives Matter.
Captain America debuted in his own comic on December 20, 1940. The cover depicted Captain America punching Hitler in the face. Conservative Americans were outraged, and sent hate mail to creators Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. At the time, the US hadn’t yet entered into World War II, and many Americans didn’t believe the rumors from Germany, or didn’t believe the US should get involved. Liberal interventionists believed it was the US’ duty to defend our Europen allies and stop the spread of fascism. But conservative isolationists didn’t think it was our business, and many conservative Americans approved of Hitler’s government and saw no reason to oppose him. Corporate media and cowardly politicians didn’t help, and Simon and Kirby, perturbed by the apathy, bigotry, and ignorance of many Americans, decided to create a super-hero to inspire action against tyranny and injustice. And thus Captain America was born.
Simon and Kirby received threats in the mail, and crowds of hostile conservatives lurked outside their offices. The mayor of New York City, Fiorello La Guardia, had to provide a police detail to keep Simon and Kirby safe. As the year passed, more and more Americans grew disturbed by the abuses of Nazi Germany, and the United States finally joined the Allies to fight against Hitler nearly a year after Captain America punched him in the face in a comic.
In 2020, the federal government of the United States has been compromised by the right-wing authoritarian government of Russia under Vladmir Putin, who funnelled money through the NRA to finance Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. A disgusting assortment of our country’s worst thieves, parasites, and bigots have been appointed to the highest offices in the land, and the incompetence, corruption, and blatant racism of the Trump administration knows no bounds. American police forces continue a long-standing tradition of the murder and abuse of Black Americans, largely without any consequences. These abuses are supported by Trump, who has deployed the National Guard against American citizens. Protestors are beaten, detained, and hit with tear gas, which is a violation of international law according to the Geneva Conventions. Trump’s racism veers from obvious to subtle, and has been a constant trait of his campaign since he had Black men publicly and forcibly removed from his rallies in 2016. Trump has done nothing to inhibit the spread of the COVID-19 virus, which disproportionally kills Black, Latino, and Native American communities due to systemic racism and inequality, and initially went so far as to pretend COVID-19 was a liberal hoax, as his wealthy Republican friends sold off stocks before they dipped. Additionally, under the zero-tolerance policies that started under the Trump administration, ICE and Border Patrol have instituted a family separation policy, resulting in thousands of immigrants, including children, held in cages and separated from their families. Thousands of these childen have been “lost” or are unaccounted for. The United States government is in the business of human trafficking, and private prisons make money capturing Latino immigrants and Black youth.
Enough is enough. Fight the power. Fight fascism. End white supremacy. And punch tyrants and bigots in the face. Black Lives Matter.
