Though I attended Pitzer College, one of the Claremont Colleges, nestled beneath the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, I had never hiked to the summit of nearby Mount Baldy... until today.
We started the hike early in the morning, waking at 4 am and driving to the San Gabriel Mountains from Los Angeles. As I am a bit of a night owl, it is always a struggle for me to rise and shine before the sun does, especially considering that despite my best efforts I had only managed four hours of sleep the night before. It was a grueling hike, and at times my body felt like it was shutting down. I realized that I was experiencing dehydration, which I remedied with water and rest.
Thankfully, with the support, patience, and encouragement of my friends, I was able to hike to the summit of Mount Baldy and back down again, and experience many stunning views on the way. At the end of our trek, my Apple Watch revealed that I had hiked 13 miles that day. It was a good adventure.
